Internships

Internship Opportunities

Student internships are available for all majors within the College of Business and Computing and vary in scope and location. These internships are aimed at providing hands-on learning and additional experience to better prepare our graduates. Responsibilities may vary based on the location and requirements of the internship and are available throughout campus and the local community.

Responsibilities are challenging, stimulating, and provide the student with the opportunity to make a contribution to the company or GSW office. Students should locate an internship in their field of interest and should expect to work 15 hours weekly in order to receive class credit.

  • On-Campus - Georgia Southwestern offers on-campus internship opportunities to students throughout our various departments that apply to all College of Business and Computing disciplines. Some internships include accounting, human resource assistance, web programming, videography, digital signage creation, and information technology support.
  • Local Businesses - Students have the ability to work with any local business for an internship opportunity upon approval. Past interns have worked with businesses such as TCI, Phoebe, Citizens Bank, City of Americus, the Chamber of Commerce, One Sumter, Magnolia Manor, Perry Brothers, AgGeorgia Farm Credit, and others.
  • Remote Work and Traditional Businesses - Remote internships as well as traditional opportunities with companies outside of Americus are also accepted with approval allowing our students increased flexibility and online options to fit their schedules.

In some cases, you may be paid for your internship position. However, the purpose of an internship is to gain valuable experience in your field while satisfying credit hours toward graduation.

Are internships required?

While internships are not required, GSW encourages students to work an internship in their field of interest by offering a variety of positions that offer experience in many different fields.

Can graduate students receive internship credit?

Yes! Often, our local businesses need interns that have received a higher level of education. Please talk to your advisor about any opportunities available.

What if I'm a business or computing minor?

Preference may be given to students majoring in the specific field. However, those with the required skills and experience should still apply for any availabilities.

My Internship gave me the skills and experience I needed to be more confident in a professional setting. Being able to apply the concepts from class materials while at work was rewarding.
