We are excited that you are interested in bringing your group of students to learn more about Southwestern!  We love having the opportunity to showcase our excellent academics and wonderful campus atmosphere to prospective students. To be considered for a Group Tour, the group should consist of potential Southwestern students who fit into the following categories:

  • High school students (10th-12th grade)
  • Part of a college-bound associated program with a high school or university*
  • Students at an accredited college/university

The tour can be formatted to fit the needs of your particular group, although they usually consist of a welcome from the Office of Admissions, a tour of campus and finally, a meeting with an Admissions Counselor.  The tour will be led by student leaders.

*Due to the availability of admissions staff and tour guides, reservations for group visits are limited to high school and college students only. If you have a group of students that includes elementary or middle school-aged students; or if the group is comprised of other non-secondary/post-secondary aged students, please see some of our recommendations for visit alternatives that might be a good fit for your group.  This information is located at the bottom of this page.

School group visit information:

Group tours can be scheduled Monday-Friday during our normal business hours.  To set up your visit, call our office at (229) 928-1273 or email  Our staff will put you in contact with your group’s assigned Admissions Counselor, who will work with you on scheduling the visit.

Reservations are required and we ask that they be made as early as possible, preferably no less than 1 week in advance. Additionally, there must be one adult chaperone for every 10 students. Requests for a school group visit should be made by a chaperone who will be accompanying the group on the tour.

If you need to cancel your group’s visit, we ask that you notify our office at least 2 days in advance, if possible.

Options for other groups:

Americus and Sumter County have many other learning opportunities for groups that do not fit our student group criteria.  We encourage groups with elementary/middle school students to consider the following options that would be more suitable for this age group.

The Camp Sumter military prison at Andersonville, located just 15 miles outside of Americus, was one of the largest military prisons during the Civil War. Andersonville National Historic Site is a memorial to all American prisoners of war throughout the nation's history.  Today, visitors can explore any of the three components of the Andersonville National Historic Site: the former site of Camp Sumter military prison, the Andersonville National Cemetery, and the National Prisoner of War Museum.

For more information or to plan your visit to Andersonville, contact them at (229) 924-0343 or visit their website:

Jimmy Carter Boyhood Farm:

Located 10 miles outside of Americus, your group can tour the Jimmy Carter Boyhood Farm in Plains, GA.  Discover where Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, grew up and learn more about the way life before modern amenities.

Habitat for Humanity-Global Village Discovery Center:

Habitat for Humanity is a global nonprofit housing organization that first began on the Koinonia Farm on the outskirts of Americus, GA. Habitat works in partnership with families and volunteers toward their vision, which is to achieve a world where everyone has acceptable housing.  The 6-acre village is a unique way to see life-size Habitat houses from countries around the world while staying in beautiful Southwest Georgia.
