Georgia, Florida, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee residents all pay in-state tuition at Georgia Southwestern State University. Residents of Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee that attend GSW will be granted out-of-state tuition waivers by the University System of Georgia (USG).
Students receiving the border state waiver must remain continuously enrolled at GSW to ensure this waiver will be continued until graduation. Students will also be required to live on campus in the Residence Halls. The 6 States - 1 Rate Initiative allows students from these 6 states the opportunity to attend an out-of-state university with a private school feel at a fraction of what that cost should be. We look forward to the opportunity to welcome more students to Georgia Southwestern from these neighboring states.
Georgia Southwestern can accept: Florida Pre-Pay, Alabama PACT, South Carolina Pre-Pay, and any 529 College Plan. State scholarship programs such as Florida's Bright Futures cannot normally be used at GSW due to that issuing state's regulations for that scholarship.
To receive the Border State Waiver, students need to complete the border state waiver application and offer proof of Lawful Presence in the United States. Students receiving the Border State Waiver must live in campus housing at Georgia Southwestern each term the Border Waiver is awarded.
Georgia Southwestern offers a variety of scholarships and waivers that further increase the affordability of a hurricane education. With the majority of students receiving financial aid, GSW's scholarships, aid, and waivers allow students the opportunity to earn a high quality education without years of debt.
