Lecture Capture/ Podcasting at GSW
The University System of Georgia partnered with Georgia College and State University to develop the USG Podcasting Server. Here, USG faculty and staff can store podcasts for viewers to subscribe to and download. Georgia Southwestern State University’s liaison to the USG Podcasting Server is Bob Slenker, GSW’s Instructional Technology Coordinator.
Included in the server interface is a useful how-to manual on creating podcasts, podcasting channels, uploading podcasts and how to let viewers know how to access them.
In addition, Frank Lowney with Georgia College and State University published a very comprehensive paper called The 5 Ps of Educational Podcasting, describing what podcasts are, how they are distributed and how one can create them. Links to particular applications and services related to creating and distributing podcasts are also included in this comprehensive paper.
So far, faculty and staff at GSW have been using programs such as Camtasia Studio and Adobe Captivate to create podcasts via live screen capture or have been using inexpensive Flip video cameras to simply record their lectures and easily upload the video files to the USG podcasting server.
For more information on getting started with podcasting and lecture capture at GSW, contact Bob Slenker at robert.slenker@gsw.edu or call 931-2922.
